Safety and Security to Ring in the New Year

Posted on Dec 10, 2019

We’re approaching the eve of a brand new decade, which means the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31st  in New York will be, as predicted, quite the large-scale event. 1 million revelers are expected to stand in the streets to help ring in the year 2020 when the crystal ball drops. The celebration is a New York City tradition and is followed globally.

The talented analysts working at the Risk Intelligence Monitoring Center (RIMC) will be covering the event from start to finish with special event briefings, hyper-local intelligence and analysis, and real-time alerts. In addition, the City of New York deploys Everbridge’s market-leading Critical Event Management platform (CEM) to alert attendees of the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration in case of emergencies, disruptions, and/or the need to share important information during the festivities regarding safety and security. Everbridge powers the statewide emergency notification platform NY-ALERT and the New York City emergency notification platform Notify NYC. New Yorkers and visitors can text the keyword NEWYEARSEVE to 692692 (NYCNYC) to receive alerts and updates on weather, road closures, traffic delays and more.

Text messages to citizens may include safety, traffic, weather, and event alerts, including street closures and detours, transit delays, potential disruptions, reunification locations for missing persons, and updates throughout the evening.

Notify NYC, powered by Everbridge, was also deployed for the city’s annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Everbridge technology has been deployed at similar large-scale events including the Pride Parade in San Francisco, Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and the Presidential Inauguration. It is also regularly used by officials during severe weather situations, including hurricanes and the California wildfires.

Through real-time threat intelligence, situational awareness, and integrated response and collaboration, security and risk professionals can better mitigate or eliminate the impact of critical events and keep people safe.

Helping manage critical events for 4,500+ customers globally, and reaching more than 500 million people in over 200 countries and territories, Everbridge is the global leader in critical event management and enterprise safety software applications to help keep people safe and businesses running.
