Top Points from the RSA Conference 2017

The annual RSA Conference on cybersecurity regularly brings together the best minds in cyber security awareness, and this past February in San Francisco was no different. NC4 was proud to participate. Over the course of the event, some clear themes began to emerge. RSA conferences around the world bring in new ideas and diverse subjects from the 45,000 IT professionals that attend every year. The priorities and concerns of the collective group tend to show through over the course of five days, and many conference sessions.

Cyber Security Awareness | Top Points from the RSA Conference 2017</

Below, we have distilled some of the top overall points from the 2017 RSA Conference.

1.    IoT

One thing that came up again and again was IoT. The Internet of Things (IoT) has been with us for many years, but as more devices get pulled into the general online orbit of an organization (from an air conditioning unit to a smartphone), the security of these systems becomes more of a concern. Having a plan and procedure in place now to secure your overall IoT was a key point, as was the risk context in which it should be placed.

2.    Regulations

The general consensus on regulation was that more regulations seem likely. This is simply an acknowledgment that the amount of new technologies that will need some rules and organization are growing: from driver-less cars to personal drones. Europe is widely recognized to be at the forefront of these evolving regulations, and it is best for your IT organization to be prepared early for any changes to laws and rules that may be coming.

3.    Backup Data

With a notable increase in cyber-attacks and data breaches, backing up your company's data has never seemed more critical. IT professionals at this year's RSA conference were in general agreement that doing this by segmenting your data off of the main network you run on, is the most secure in the case of a data breach or ransomware attack.

4.    High Demand of Cybersecurity Professionals

IT and cybersecurity professionals are in extremely high demand, and, because of this, it behooves organizations to work smart. How you use your time with this in-demand group is critical.

The RSA Conference was illuminating, and staying at the forefront of cyber security awareness is a key part of NC4's business strategy. For more information on what we can assist your organization with, contact us anytime at 877-624-4999.
